Chevrolet Tahoe – History

Files under Automotive | Leave a Comment

The Chevrolet Tahoe is a full sized SUV that is manufactured by General Motors. The Tahoe is very similar to the GMC Yukon, also made by GM. In the early 90’s Chevrolet and GMC brought to the market two different sized SUVs that are under the Blazer and Jimmy model names. But when the full-sized Jimmy was rebadged as the Yukon in 1992 the situation changed. Chevrolet waited until 1994, when they upgraded the mid-sized S-10 Blazer into a full-sized SUV and rebadged the new 4-door version of the Blazer as the Chevy Tahoe.

As of the present, the Chevrolet Tahoe and the GMC Yukon serve as GM’s full-sized SUV model line. There are also lengthened wheelbase options available for both SUVs; the Suburban for the Tahoe, and the Yukon XL for the Yukon. In 1998, as the demand for more passenger-friendly SUVs rose, a luxury line for the Yukon model line emerged, the Yukon Denali, and as of 2002 the Denali version of the Yukon XL has been available for consumers.

In the 2010 model year, the Chevy Tahoe is considered to be one of the best performing SUV that is out in the market. It is also very competitive in terms of fuel efficiency, able to get 22 mpg with the introduction of the new Tahoe Hybrid. The Tahoe’s competition in the big sport utility market are the Ford Expedition, the Nissan Armada, and the Toyota Sequoia in the gas-powered division; among the hybrids it takes on the Mercedes GL-class with its clean burning BlueTEC diesel engine, the BMW X6 Hybrid, and also GM’s own Cadillac Escalade Hybrid and Yukon Hybrid.

The Chevrolet Tahoe – Brief History and Specs

Files under Automotive | Leave a Comment

The Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the two full-size SUV model lines from General Motors, the other one being the GMC Yukon. The origins of the Chevy Tahoe can be traced back to early 1990 when the first GM released in two different size SUVs, the Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy. In 1992, Jimmy was rebadged to become what is now known as the Yukon, it made the game a whole lot different in terms of sales numbers. Chevrolet waited until 1994 before repackaging the Blazer, upgrading it into 4-door full-size SUV and rebadged as the Chevrolet Tahoe.

In 1998, the increasing demands for sport utility vehicles which are more comfortable urged GM to create luxury versions of their current SUV lineup. Chevrolet came up with a more luxurious version of the Tahoe called the LTZ. There are also versions of both the Tahoe and the Yukon that have longer wheelbases, the Suburban and the Yukon XL.

As the 2010 model year entered, the Chevrolet Tahoe is regarded as one of the most reliable SUVs currently out on the market. And the release of the Tahoe Hybrid, the Tahoe also became one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs, able to go up to 22mpg. Among the large SUVs, the Tahoe’s competition is the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and Nissan Armada in the gas-powered market; and in the hybrids, the Mercedes GL-Class, the BMW X6 Hybrid and GM’s own Yukon Hybrid and Escalade Hybrid.

Factors That Can Cause Your Vehicle’s Engine to Stall

Files under Automotive | Leave a Comment

Troubleshooting a stalling engine is often problematic because it can be caused by so many different factors. An experienced mechanic should be able to narrow down the possible culprits, but even then, diagnosing the stall can be challenging. The problem may be hiding in the fuel system; it might be lurking in the ignition system; or it could be related to an assortment of components outside these systems.

Below, we’ll describe some of the most common reasons an engine will stall. A lot depends on the circumstances surrounding the event, which we’ll mention throughout when the information is relevant. For most people, troubleshooting a stalling vehicle requires too much time and effort to do themselves. If you’re willing to try, however, the following information will provide a useful guide.

All About Snow Blowers

Files under Automotive | Leave a Comment

A snow blower is just what it sounds like. It is a machine that blows snow from one place to another. Particularly handy for walkways and driveways, the machine does not remove the snow, it merely places it somewhere else. While this will create wonderful snow fort and snowman options for the kids, is it really an effective way to clear away snow?

How they Work

Snow blowers can be powered electrically, by gasoline, or by diesel fuel. Since snow blowers range in size from small enough to be handheld to machines that can clear off airport runways, there are several different ways for these devices to work. Some use a rotating motor to suck snow into the machine and shoot it out a chute. This is called a single-stage snow blower (or snow thrower). These types of snow blowers are for small area snow removal – like walkways or sidewalks, or even driveways).

Mustang, not only is it synonymous with supreme power coupled with superb styling, but it’s name and everything the brand represents is a legend in the automobile world.

At the cars debut back on April 17th, 1964, it was Ford’s most successful launch since the Ford model A decades earlier. Although beaten to the showroom floor only by a couple weeks by Plymouth’s Barracuda, the Ford Mustang still helped to pioneer the “pony car” class of automobiles. Pony cars were generally classified as sports car-esque coupes with long hoods and short rear decks. Designed with younger crowd in mind, they were generally more nimble than most cars of the era, and consequently handled better as well.

The Ford Mustang has an impressive legacy that lives on to this day, inspiring countless cars after it including the Toyota Celica, Ford Capri, Chevy Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, and AMC AMX. The Ford Mustang is currently enjoying it’s fifth generation, and stands today as Ford’s third oldest nameplate in production, next to the F-Series Pickup truck line, and the Falcon line of cars. Over the course of these generations the mustang has been enjoyed in various different body styles such as fastback, coupe, hatchback, and convertible, and throughout the years the Mustang has been available in lots of different trim options with many different engine and drive trains as well, some of those include the L, GL, GLX, LX, GT, Turbo GT, SVO (Available from 1984 to 1986), the Cobra (Available from 1979 to 1981, and once again in 1993), and the Cobra R (Only available in 1993).

The Ford Mustang has always been a staple for horse power and performance, and rightfully so. The Ford Mustang has had its roots in racing since stampeding right out of the gate in 1964. Winning many world renowned races as well as awards has helped to immortalize the Ford Mustang in automotive history. Some of the awards the Mustang brand has been bestowed with over the years include: The Tiffany Gold Medal for excellence in American design, which was awarded back in 1965. The Mustang was the first car to ever be honored with such a prestigious award. The Mustang has been featured on the Car and Driver Ten Best list in 1983, 1987, 1988, 2005, and 2006, and it’s won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in both 1974 and 1994. Also, it was runner-up to the Chrysler 300 for the North American Car of the Year award in 2005 and was named Canadian Car of the Year

Emergency Kits For Your Vehicle

Files under Automotive | Leave a Comment

Emergency kits are an important addition to any car, but it is especially important to have one during the winter months. Being stranded on the side of the road is bad in the spring or fall, but it can be downright dangerous in the summer and winter months. Even if you have OnStar, AAA, or a diminutive mechanic who rides along on your road trips, it doesn’t hurt to keep an emergency kit with the essentials.

All Year Round

You always need jumper cables, road flares, a first aid kit, a flashlight (with extra batteries), some tools (pliers, wrench, screwdrivers), a tire pressure gauge, a help sign, pen or pencils with paper, and a pocket knife. Of course, you should keep a cell phone on you at all times (though you shouldn’t talk on it or text on it while driving), and it doesn’t hurt to keep a cell phone car charger on hand in the event yours goes low on power.

Car Air Conditioning System

Files under Automotive | Leave a Comment

The air conditioners found in the car works similarly as like as the air conditioners present in the houses and offices. In simple words, the air conditioning system of a car is the small unit of window air conditioning system. With the passage of time, the air conditions found in the car have got changes, and now the latest models are available, which provide more and comfortable cooling.

In order to understand, how the car air conditioning system operates, it is required to know various parts of this unit. First of all, the most important component which is present in this system is the compressor. The compressor is the central component which emits hoses of both high and low pressures. When these hoses come out, they go inside the condenser and finally to the evaporator. In this system, there are two types of valves like expansion and dryer valves, which are required for the proper functioning of this system. The function of expansion valves is to regulate the internal temperature of air, and it controls the refrigerant flow inside the system. There are certain anti-freezing agents as well like coolant or condensed gases, which pass through these valves.

The mechanism of a car air conditioning system is quite different from the conventional air conditioners. The car system instead of making the air cool, take out the heat, which is already found in the air. The Freon gas is used in the car air conditioning system which possesses a high temperature. When this gas passes through the compressor, the pressure channels mix it with the fresh air. The total gas mixture due to compression becomes liquid, and then it comes to the dryer. This chamber purifies the gas and sends to the evaporator through an expansion valve. The liquid gas absorbs the heat of the car which is then evaporated from here by the help of a blower or fan. This phenomenon repeats several times in order to make the environment cooler.

Car & Truck Front End Wheel Alignments De-Mystified

Files under Automotive | Leave a Comment

Your car seems to pull to one side of the road or another while driving down the street or road. Your trusted mechanic or dealership service tech adviser “advises’ you that you may need a “front end wheel alignment”. Other than extracting precious cash from your wallet or bank debit or charge card what is a front and wheel alignment? As well what do the words, phrases and measurements that the mechanic or the mechanics helper explains detail to you mean – well at least of terms of your vehicle’s drivability and tire care and maintenance?

Wheel (sometimes referred to as tire) alignment or alignments generally refers to all of the angular relationships between the front suspension and steering components and your integrated car body, or in older automobiles “the frame”. Overall it can be said that five angles are manipulated by automotive designers and engineers to reach a balancing act and indeed a compromise between optimal tire life and lifetimes , gasoline fuel economy and in the end your road handling and driving safety. As a maxim it can be said that best overall fuel economy and tire life are achieved if the tires are perfectly upright as well as being in parallel stance to the overall direction of travel. However a car, Sports Utility Vehicle SUV or truck steers and handles better if its tires run at a slight angle. This does cause them to scuff along the pavement a bit as they roll, which does work to reduce tire life and fuel economy. Thus it can be said proper tire alignment to begin with is one big balancing trick.

“Camber” is the inward or outward tilt of the wheel, measured in degrees between the tire centerline and the vertical. To simplify the term “camber” to the average automobile owner simply put if the wheel tilts outward then camber is said to be “positive”; if it tilts inwards then the camber is “negative”.
