How to Be a Great Audience Member/Learning Participant

Files under Etiquette | Leave a Comment

Upon attending recent seminars, concerts, movies, and other public events I am appalled at the seeming discourtesy demonstrated by attendees and participants in learning venues. As I criticize others, I look at myself and realize, to my chagrin, that I practice some of these behaviors. Now that I realize how annoyed I am by others, my commitment to myself is to be a more respectful, attentive audience member and learning participant.

What is your participant profile? Take this self-test to see if you practice any of these behaviors. Then read on to discover how to be a better—or great—audience member or learning participant.

For each stated behavior, identify the level of your own behavior (on a scale of 1-through-5, with “1” = you rarely exhibit the behavior and “5” = you regularly do so).

Baby Shower Planning and Etiquette

Files under Etiquette | Leave a Comment

If you have a friend or relative who are expecting a new member of their family, a great way to celebrate is to host a baby shower. Baby showers are great opportunities to share parenting ideas and advices. This is also the best time to brain storm and gather ideas for the invitations, decorations, food, activities and gifts for the new mom and the baby especially if they are going to have a Christening celebration.

Ideal baby shower gifts

Before the baby shower, you can visit the expectant parents and ask to see the nursery. While you can always give stuffed animals for gifts, it is more practical to give gifts that the baby and new mom can actually use, such as diapers, nursing bottles, clothes, shoes, baby care packs, sound monitors and burping cloths.

Staying on top of the latest men’s fashion updates can be time consuming and hard on your wallet. You don’t want to overspend on fashion items that might only work one way or go out of style quickly. You need to buy classic tasteful items that will coordinate well with everything and stay in style for years to come. Buying items that work with several pieces is the best way to save money. Comparing prices and shopping at outlet stores is a great way to stay budget friendly. Below we have comprised a list of the best ways to stay fashionable on a budget.

5 Ways to Stay on Budget When Making Fashion Purchases

• Choose items that can work with more than one outfit. This is the key to having great fashion without breaking the bank. If you decide to splurge on a few key accessories that is fine as long as the go with everything. For instance don’t purchase an expensive name brand wallet that is orange because it is in style that season. That purchase would be a waste of money because 4 months later it wouldn’t be in style and you wouldn’t want it any more. Men’s Fashion Accessories Worth Paying For

Files under Etiquette | Leave a Comment

Sometimes it’s hard to justify spending a lot of money on such a small item like a fashion accessory. Of course you maybe want the item, but this doesn’t justify overspending. In today’s economy being savvy with your money means a lot. You want to get the biggest bang for your buck and spend appropriately. With all this in mind it’s hard to prioritize your fashion spending. You can splurge on a few big ticket items but you need to budget accordingly for the other items. Today store marketing makes us want to spend on things we didn’t even consider buying before we entered the store. You have to remain focused when shopping and refrain from spending on random fashion items. Deciding what you want to splurge on can be a hard decision, but it needs to be made to keep your fashion budget on track.

4 Fashion Accessories You Can Splurge On

1. It is perfectly ok if you want to splurge on a men’s watch. A watch is something very important to you in a personal sense. You need to be able to tell time and many watches boast other features you use daily. It is ok to spend a lot on a watch since this item can last for years with the proper care. Another reason a large chunk of your budget can go to this item is due to its high visibility. Your watch is something you need and it’s a great way to make a fashion statement. Purchasing a high-end watch will dress up even your basic apparel.

Email Etiquette

Files under Etiquette | Leave a Comment

You want your business’ emails, whether to colleagues, clients, or part of an email marketing campaign to get read and look professional, so it’s important you follow a few simple rules. To many this could appear painstakingly obvious but we all are sent emails every day with a lot of common errors. consider the advice below to ensure you’re delivering the right message.

To begin with, who is the email to be sent to? Do you know all of the CCs, BCCs? If your email is to be sent to just one person, then that’s easy, pop the email address in the ‘TO’ field. If your email is to be sent to one addressee but would like someone else pertinant to the discussion to see it, put the relevant person in the CC. The CC field is just to inform. If you are sending to a large list of associates who do not know each other, use the BCC, this makes sure that all of your listed emails are privatised. Have you received an email with a ton of email addresses in the ‘TO’ field? It doesn’t look very professional, does it? So use the BCC for privatised email addresses.

Now we’re onto the subject line; one of the most important parts of the email. NEVER leave the subject blank: (no subject) looks unappealing and a little rude. Blank subject lines could easily get ignored or filtered through into peoples’ spam/junk folders. Subject lines with words like, ‘FREE’, ‘BUY NOW’ or ‘IMPORTANT’ could also be filtered through to junk folders and they look quite intimidating too. Keep the subject line concise and to the point to ensure your email isn’t dismissed.

Choosing The Right Cufflinks

Files under Etiquette | Leave a Comment

Cufflinks used to be the domain of the man who wanted to don a tuxedo to go out for an evening. They were ever so slightly upper class and signified that you should be holding a champagne flute in one of your hands at an evening reception. This has changed, and in recent years it has now become a style necessity to wear a good quality shirt with an equally stunning pair of cufflinks.

If you have never bought or even used cufflinks before then the very best place you can start off is a good jewellery store. This way you will see what a cufflink is like to hold and you will also get a good feel for the kind of style that you want. While there is a vastly better selection online – with many online stores now opening purely for the sale of cufflinks – a first time user would be best placed to venture out into the high street and take a good look at what is generally available. Don’t go to a cheap store if you can help it. More exclusive and better quality jewellers, such as independent retailers, will be able to offer the best advice and a more varied range.

If you are looking for more formal cufflinks, let the jeweller know this. They should then be able to direct you towards their selection that meets this requirement. Formal cufflinks can be very different to the casual variety, and you could make an awful mistake if you bought a decidedly casual pair for a formal meeting or engagement. There is a vast array of novelty cufflinks on the market for example, and if you went to a wedding wearing these it would definitely say something negative about your personal taste.

How to Dress Business Casual at Work

Files under Etiquette | Leave a Comment

The world of work has gone through many changes over the years, with one of the biggest being the clothing that people can wear in the workplace.

Some offices, for example, offer ‘dress down’ days, where workers can abandon the stuffy shirt and tie and instead sport more casual attire that makes people more comfortable. The atmosphere in such a workplace will be more relaxed, less formal, and more often than not more creative. Many workplaces are embracing this idea and find that it is a big hit with the workforce, who enjoy having the option of dressing in the kind of clothing they feel more comfortable in.

Some places ask that their workforce dresses in something called ‘business casual’. This is not as formal as business formal, but still needs some attention to be given to it if it is to be managed well. Business casual could mean something different form one company to the next, so it is worth asking your human resources or personnel department what the phrase means. At a large company, it may mean a sports jacket with a tie, at another it may mean sweaters and jeans.

Check your diary first to make sure that you do not have to attend a formal meeting on the day of the business casual date. The worst thing that could happen is that you turn up to the meeting underdressed.
