The History and Advantages of Comparison Shopping

People have been shopping for thousands of years. With the growth and expansion of the internet, today the art of comparison shopping has become a normal part of the shopping experience. Comparison shopping is when consumers shop at different sellers for prices, options, services… etc. Because of its many advantages, comparison shopping is not a new trend. The history of comparison shopping and how it evolved to the popular activity we see today is quite an interesting story.

Through their archeological investigations, researchers have discovered that comparison shopping can be dated as far back as 1400 BC. Comparison shopping took place when Christopher Columbus arrived in the new world. He provided a variety of goods that the Natives browsed and compared before they made their selection. In the 1840’s, trading posts were established where Native people and others traded goods. The process involved browsing and comparing the goods before they chose the best item.

In the 1900’s, people in Europe browsed the papers for special deals on advertised items. During the 1960s and 70s people would drive from store to store to compare items and prices. In the 1980’s, more people were going to malls where they could easily walk from store to store looking for deals. In the 1990s, store fliers and advertising inserts were put in newspapers so that people could look through them to see which retailer was offering the best deal. Then, the development of the Internet resulted in the tremendous growth of comparison shopping.

In recent years, online shopping has drastically increased with more consumers than ever now taking advantage of this time and money saving shopping experience. Today, you can purchase just about any item online. The internet is home to thousands of sites offering great deals and quality products. However, there are unsavory characters that prey upon consumers in an effort to steal their money, personal information, and even their identity. If you do not know about the risks of shopping online and how to protect yourself when online shopping, you could become the victim of a cyber criminal.

There are a number of risks you should be aware when shopping online. For instance, there are fake sites that look like major shopping sites that are designed to earn your trust so the cyber criminal can steal your personal and financial information. There are also sites that are used to phish passwords and account names. They will use the information to enter your accounts, purchase items using your financial information, and steal your identity. For the victim, the result can be financially and emotionally devastating. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to protect yourself when you shop online to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

When you are visiting an unfamiliar website, or a site that is not well-known, it is important to make sure there are business contact numbers, email addresses, and a physical address. As well, make sure the site is a verified seller. There should be a trustmark logo that indicates that the site is secure. It is also important to make sure their payment transactions are encrypted so check for SSL certificates. SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data. Websites that use encryption will have a key or closed lock in the web browser. Also, you should check to see if the payment site address begins with https://. The https indicates that site has a secure server.

The Emotional Life of Adolescent Abuse – A Daughter’s Poetry

The following words and poetry were written by Kallel Hunter. She has graciously allowed me to share them with you.

My name is Kallel and I am 13 years old. I live in the U.K. and have Irish, Jamaican and Barbadian in me. I also have two sisters and 3 brothers. I am the eldest. We don’t live together anymore. Two are living with my mum in Birmingham; one is living with her mum (my granny) in Leicester and two are living with me and my dad and my step mom.

Living with my mom was like keeping a secret and living two lives. She drank and made us lie to everyone. She called us unpleasant names and moved us around all the time. She used me as a slave, used emotional blackmail and made us risk our education – all for a fool she followed around. Living with my mum was draining me and finally, I had to leave. Many people didn’t know and still don’t know the real reason I left. I’m not doing it out of spite, I just want to better myself and not feel so negative anymore.

The things that inspired me to start writing poetry were mainly my emotions and to try and understand things around me – mainly my mum. Poetry to me is like a friend to talk to, but with my emotions – which is a good thing and I enjoy doing it. Sometimes it’s not good things that inspire people. But what I find is that whatever inspires a person, they have the power to change it in to something positive.

Adoption and Foster Care – You Can Make a Difference

There is a child out there who is waiting for a kind soul to give him or her a chance to have a better life or to offer refuge for the healing of emotional pain and a broken character. That is what adoption and foster care is all about – giving a young innocent person the chance to be part of a conventional society where he or she can become a respectable citizen. You can make that difference for the child if you have the heart, the compassion, the discipline, flexibility, and an adequate financial means to sustain for the future of the child.

In both cases of adoption and foster care, you take over the parental responsibility over the child. However, your legal obligation becomes permanent when you decide to adopt the child provided the he or she is available for adoption. The process of adoption can be lengthy and tedious because the entire welfare of the child is given utmost consideration. You can be an adoptive parent regardless of status, whether single or married, gay or straight provided you have the capabilities to raise the child in a healthy environment as determined by the proper regulatory agencies.

Children recommended for foster care do not necessarily become candidates for adoption because the main objective is to reunite them with their biological parents or birth families as soon as the conditions for a normal family life are established. Fostering is only a temporary responsibility where you fill in the gap of nurturing the child while in a state of separation from birth families. Financial assistance in caring for the child is provided by the government social service agency responsible in your area. Monitoring the welfare of the child is a triangular set up where you, as the foster parent, the biological family and the social service through a social worker are involved.
