The Effect of the Moon on Our Health – Its Sounds Crazy, But Its True

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

The effect of the moon on our health and happiness has always been the subject of great interest. The ancients believed that the fortunes of humans moved in cycles, just like the moon. As a matter of fact, the name of the Roman goddess of the moon, Luna, would be very familiar to you because of its use as the prefix in the word for madness, lunacy.

To say that the moon causes madness may be going too far, but studies have shown that there are lots of conditions and ailments that flare up during the period of the full moon. These studies indicate that diseases like epilepsy, gout, anxiety and depression peak during this period. Hospitals always anticipate increased arrivals of traffic accident victims and other casualty admissions when the moon is full. Police departments will testify to the fact that they see a lot of homicidal activity and rash behavior at this time of the month. Amazingly enough, even absenteeism spikes during this period.

The reasons for this are still unclear even though there have been many suggestions put forth over the years. One supposed reason is that the gravitational pull of the moon is the highest during this period. This is believed to have a direct effect on the human body which is composed of 70% water. The belief is that the moon’s gravitational pull has the same effect on the human body as it has on all the seas, lakes etc on earth.

Who is Yanni? Heres Your Wake Up Call!

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

When I was younger, maybe 10-12 or so I was exposing myself to “new age” type of music. I fell in love with the trance and beauty that came from many artist that I ran into, many being from Pagan and Wiccan paths or what people would consider to be. Like artists like Lorenna Mckennit in “Wiccan Dance” or it’s real name the “Mummers Dance”. I even found a website that would create an online radio station for which I believe was 365radio.com or something to that nature, and I compiled all this beautiful music in one place.

But out of all the artists I found I was most impressed and in actual awe with tears of excitement and joy that I found such a musician. The song title was called Nightingale and the artist was Yanni. I couldn’t believe that such a diversified musical nature existed, to my very being I felt a different nature inside his music and I quickly proceeded to look for more of his music.

There is something in music of this stature, it’s complete uniqueness develops a quiet rarity in the sounds created from his awesome composure of music. Now is the time to say if you have never heard of this mans style the time is now to understand exactly what the world over has been raving about. He not only stands alone in his incomparable music style but he moves this music to find a natural peace between boundaries, in his documentary No Borders, No Boundaries you really discover completely how true he is to his music and how much it really means to the rest of the world.

Men’s Style For Spring – Sloppy – It’s Just Not Making the Grade

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

Turn to any of the menswear spring collections for 2009 and what do you get? Wham! circa 1985. Yes, that Wham! The Wham of Wake Me Up Before You Go, Go.

All I can say is “run away!” Man, I don’t want your freedom.

Men’s style for this spring is “decidedly sloppy, with sloping pants with an Asian flair.” Here I am actually quoting nobody in particular, but trying to give you a good amalgamation of a number of noted fashion critics and experts – some of them acclaimed, some of them self-appointed.

This kind of fashion is all very well and good if you’re appearing in a tribute band or are an actual 1980s pop star trying for a little former glory with the vintage-chic crowd. If you’re trying for a costume-y, somewhat asexual vibe, by all means go out and buy some loose-fitting jackets and wear neckties as a sash: it’s all the rage, according to the Powers that Be. A darling little cardigan will wrap up your ensemble in the oh-so-cutest way, and try a pair of sweet little lace-ups in hopsack – think Jennifer Gray in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

For those of you who are just regular guys, lace-ups are shoes.

Getting the Best Mortgage Rate: Your Options

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

In the world of loans and mortgages, people always strive to get the best mortgage rate – Toronto or elsewhere. After all, it is always best to get the friendliest deals, most especially if this involves your home and a substantial amount of money.

So, how exactly do you find the best mortgage rate available? Here are a few tips:

1. Make your credit report desirable.

Your credit report plays a huge role in determining the fate of your mortgage rate – whether it will be high or low. Therefore, it is important that you keep it blemish-free. Consider it as your resume. In the same way that prospective employers assess your resume before offering you a job, lenders evaluate your credit report before informing you of your mortgage rate.

Scientists and UFOs: They ARE Interested

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

There is a common misperception that scientists are not interested in UFOs. It is often debated that if there really was something to this, then scientists would be looking into it. The reality is that not only are scientists interested, they have been the main proponents of this subject since the beginning of modern UFO research.

When the public started to take notice of high profile UFO sightings beginning in the 40’s, the Air Force was on point to investigate the phenomena. They started several projects, all culminating into the Air Force’s largest UFO investigation called Project Blue Book. To help them in their investigation they hired astronomer, Dr. J. Allen Hynek.

Hynek was not enthusiastic about the subject at the time. He was quoted as saying “the whole subject seems utterly ridiculous”. He then went on to explain away the incredible sightings that continued to be reported by credible people. One of his most infamous debunkings was in March of 1966, when hundreds of witnesses in Michigan reported sightings over a two day period. Hynek suggested that some of these could have been due to swamp gas.

Keeping People From Taking Advantage of You

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

Most people like to do things for other people when they can but some people tend to over do it on the niceness and end up getting taken advantage of. It usually starts out by doing something small for a friend or family member in need and then offering to do something a little bit bigger and more significant the next time and it can easily escalate from there. The person may not even be trying to take advantage of you but it is easy to accept help when it is offered and many people have trouble saying no in such a situation. This means that it may have to be up to you to keep yourself from being taken advantage of. This is not always easy if you are the type of person who does not like to see others unhappy or the type of person that feels like they should take it upon themselves to solve people’s problems. The fact is, people will always run into situations so you are not and should not always be there to help them out of those situations. After all you have your own situations and issues to deal with and if you are to busy helping everybody else you will have little time left to help yourself and your own family. There are a few key ways that you can keep people from taking advantage of you.

First in foremost in keeping people from taking advantage of you is learning how to say no. Just because you say no to something does not mean that you being unreasonable, you have the right to say no to anyone any time you want. This does not mean that you always have to say no but you should pick and choose wisely the favors that you do for others. It is not that difficult to just tell somebody that you can’t do something unless you yourself make it difficult. If you are worried about upsetting the person then just remember that they will eventually, probably very quickly, get over whatever it is.

Second and also important is not always offering to do things for people, especially when you know that you do not have the time or patience to do it. Some times many of us get caught up in the though of making someone else feel good and helping others but we do not realize that it often comes at the price of sacrificing something that we had to do or could have done with our time. In the end we feel the pressure to complete our own tasks but we also have taken on the pressure of completing someone else’s as well. Only offer to do what you can realistically do and you will have a lot less stress and be taken advantage of much less as well.

DUI is Now a Badge of Honor

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

Are you kidding? Is having a drunk driving offense (DUI) a badge of honor in today’s society? I suppose there are worse things to be proud of, such as the types of terrible things you have to do to get “jumped in” and join a street gang… Well, if you’ve hung around a whole bunch of bars lately as I have, you might take this more seriously.

As marketing director of a DUI lawyer referral website, DWI has been on my mind quite a bit lately. In fact, I decided it would be important to interview 50-60 people who wear this badge of honor to see what they experienced when they were pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence of… drugs or alcohol, you pick.

I went to the bank and withdrew a whole bunch of five dollar bills and that night, off I went to the local bars to seek out interviewees. I figured offering someone five bucks to talk about their entanglement with the DUI police would be more than enough to get some juicy interviews.

The Mighty Ugg Boot – Can We Resist It?

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

Today they are nearly as common as pigeons; walking through the city centre of Leeds on this bitter cold winter’s day I must have counted at least 30 pairs of Ugg Boots donning the feet of women (and 1 man) of all ages, in many different styles and shades. In the colder months the infamous sheep’s wool lined boot it seems could possibly be one of the best inventions ever, if their popularity is anything to go by.

Now I am actually throwing this statement out as a question, as I am one of the seemingly small minority of women who have never owned a pair of Uggs. That’s right, and until today I had never even tried a pair on. But being involved in the sale of shoes online and seeing first hand how many pairs fly off the shelves each month (and with England experiencing her coldest blip since 1981 apparently) I have recently come to ask myself exactly why I haven’t yet jumped on the Ugg wagon, and what have I been missing out on?

The Ugg style of boot originated in either Australia or New Zealand (there is debate over exactly which country) and have been pictured on the feet of pilots as early as during World War I. Since then they have also been worn by sheep shearers in Australia, and to keep the feet of surfers and swimmers warm when out of the water, in various countries. The insulative properties of sheepskin are what allow the boots to keep your feet toasty warm against the elements; the fleecy fibres of their linings keep your feet at body temperature by allowing air to circulate the feet. So there is obviously a clever science to this footwear, and I am thinking there may be a more attractive alternative to the 3 pairs of socks I am wearing under my wellies this week….

What Are The Disadvantages Of Solar Power? Do Not Overlook The Problems

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

Are you interested in installation a slow power cell for your home? Before you choose something like this you need to make sure that you will be benefited with the product. There are certain people who look out only for the advantages present in the solar cells but they fail to look beyond it.

The problem begins after they start using the product. Solar energy is actually one of the most popular sources of alternative energy available these days. It is very much necessary to save the non renewable sources of energy and this is the reason why the government is promoting the renewable sources of energy so much.

But before you invest in anything you need to find the complete truth about the product. You must always remember that each and every product has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Similarly the solar power also has some benefits and certain other problems. You need to consider both before you choose this source of energy.

Five Fights You Can Not Win

Files under Opinions | Leave a Comment

Everybody has an opinion and that is a fact. Sensitive subjects like politics, religion, fashion or simply perspectives can spark a lively discussion. Who are we fooling here; they can start an argument every time. Now these are not the only topics that are touchy, but it’s a start. We will look at five (5) fights that you will never win, no mate how hard you try.

Views on politics are extremely touchy. I like this public figure, you like that one. I support this legislation and you don’t. If we were to get on the subject, it wouldn’t be long before the sparks flew. Fights about politics can never be won by either party. Why? Because both parties are going to hold to their position fiercely and will not be swayed. Therefore fights about politics will never be won and will end in a draw every single time. Don’t go there.

The same holds true for religious issues. This is a particularly sensitive topic and can cause a riff that will never be healed. At least for a long time anyway. You believe in God, I do not. The Bible is a factual book or a work of fiction? Either way, it is important to respect each other’s opinion and leave it at that. Trying to make someone see your way of thinking will only serve to alienate them further, so avoid this one, too.
