Third Term — The Obasanjo Syndrome … Ambition And The Place Of God

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

I recently read a post in a blog (http://multibrand.blogspot.com) concerning President SBY of Indonesia ambition to run for a third term despite the constitutional provision for a two term period and it seems just like yesterday to me. Obviously the Obasanjo’s Syndrome seem to be creeping into the hearts of leaders abroad wanting to tow the third term line by all means to perpetuate in power. Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo was in power from 1999-2007 and at the tail end of his administration it was obvious the old man already brought in a new lexicon into the Nigerian polity by sponsoring groups to chant and sing his praises that he alone can run the country and he alone is the messiah that can do it all.

As a result of this; activist, lawyers, labour unions, socio movements rose up against this move and socio commentators where all over the place making their own noises. Indeed to these leaders, it just is what it is ‘noises’; because despite the constitutional provision of a two term period, this man was prepared to give it all it takes and the National Assembly was just there to help him. News of money exchanging hands filled everywhere, widespread corruption took center stage and reached its peak. Though Obasanjo refused to publicly declare he seeks a third term, his body language said it all, the groups fronting for him said it all, his own refusal to give answers when asked direct questions by pressmen said it all and the fact that his whole cabinet members and advisers clamored that he alone is the messiah crowned it all. At both chambers of the National Assembly—the Senate and House of Representatives there were divergent and disagreeing views. A topical issue it sure became all over Nigeria for close to a year and a half at the expense of national growth and development.

Royal dignitaries came into Aso Rock from all over the country to pay the President a visit and give him their supports and a lot of states to states visits were made by the old man, going by the fact that the President finds pleasure in making tens of foreign trips within few months and non within Nigeria; but this third term changed that because there was need to grease hands.

Question: How Smart is Obama? Answer: Scary Smart

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

Every time the Obama Regime does something that does not make sense to Americans who believe in the Constitution and our free-market economy I always hear the question raised with a sense of disbelief, “How can he do that, I thought he was smarter than that”.

Using traditional objective standards, it would be easy to reach the conclusion that Obama is very smart:

• Harvard Law School graduate

• Editor of the Harvard Law Review

• Constitutional Law Professor at Harvard

Mid-Term Elections and Nonprofits

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

The mid-term elections have caused quite a shake-up for nonprofit art organizations as Republicans now have control of the House of Representatives and the Democrats still have the majority in the Senate. The good news: there are some returning and new champions of the arts- Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Representative Todd Platts (R-PA), and Representative Louise Slaughter (D-NY), Representative Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Representative Mark Kirk (R-IL). On the state government level, Governors-elect Jerry Brown (D-CA), Dan Malloy (D-CT), Tom Corbett (R-PA), Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), Lincoln Chaffee (I-RI), Mark Dalton (D-MN), John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Rick Snyder (R-MI) and locally in Providence, RI Mayor-Elect Angel Taveras and Louisville, KY Mayor-elect Greg Fischer. The bad news: as of the time of the election, the recession has caused a 16% drop in state and local government arts funding as well as a $1.2 billion decline in private charitable gifts. The shaky news: with Congress now divided and Republicans promising to cut government spending and focus on creating jobs, it begs a few questions: Will our newly elected leaders do anything to address the increasing number of individual artists that have experienced unemployment at twice the rate of other professional workers? What will they do to ensure the creative workforce is sustained so our next generation can compete effectively in the global workforce? Will they need a reminder that art works? In the words National Endowment for the Arts Chairman, Rocco Landesmen, the phrase has three meanings:

a.”Art works” is a noun. They are the plays, paintings, dances, films, and the other works of art that are the creation of artists;

b.”Art works” is a verb. It describes the effect of art on audiences and viewers, art works to transport, transform, inspire, and challenge us; and

Christine O’Donnell, Witchcraft, And Education

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

(Summary: the big question is why the public schools waste so much time on weird non-academic topics, most of them hostile to traditional beliefs? The real witch in this story may be the Education Establishment.)

This is a story about a missed opportunity.

But first we have to ask what is the big deal? Still a teenager, O’Donnell dabbled in witchcraft; and then moved on. It shows she’s open to new ideas but doesn’t lose her perspective and become rigid. No wonder ideologues are upset with her. Personally, I believe I’m more afraid of Marxists than of witches.

Second, has anyone noticed that this entire country dabbles in witchcraft every October? It’s called Halloween; and it’s become a major national event. The symbols and iconography of witchcraft permeate American life for a few weeks every year; witches on broomsticks appear in millions of lives. Are all the people who participate in this witchfest unfit for public office?

Public Schools Are Worse Than Most People Believe (And Have Been For Much Longer Than Most People Realize)

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

In all the comments I see left on internet articles about education, two themes dominate:

1) The first is, average Americans have no idea how bad the public schools are. The Education Establishment has done a brilliant job at PR and misinformation. They have tried to deceive the public; and the public is deceived. Unfortunately. So here are several quotes from some of the smartest, most successful people in the USA, people you should trust completely. And they are saying that educationally speaking we are now having a near-death experience:

“When I compare our schools to what I see when I’m traveling abroad, I’m terrified for our workforce of tomorrow.” Bill Gates, founder, Microsoft Corp.

“If companies were run like many education systems, they wouldn’t last a week.” Thomas Donohue, president, US Chamber of Commerce

Obama Defeat Would Advance a Lame

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

U.S. voters elect 435 House of Representatives, 37 senators and most of the governor, state senators and representatives and state department heads. The Democratic Party suffered defeat, losing the House majority, could barely more than half of the Senate. 37 seats in the Senate election, the Republican Party swept 23 seats, the Democratic Party had only 10 seats, along with their original 38 seats with no election, and two independent members of the Democratic Party tend to stand, the Democratic Party barely continue to control the Senate. House of Representatives, the Republicans also made big gains ahead. Gubernatorial elections, almost dominated by the Republican Party, according to the latest statistics, the hands of Republicans from the Democrats, more grab a seat on the governor, is central Iowa, a total of nine states sweeping changes. Democrats can only seat in the California governor, take it over from the hands of rivals.

Power two years later, Obama will have become the “lame president?” The answer is not necessarily.

Peculiar American political reality is that most of the opposition parties control Congress, but will the president’s policy position. Prior to the Democratic Party hold for both administrative and legislative initiative, and must shoulder the ultimate responsibility for the problems. Thereafter, but no longer have such a burden. President Truman in 1948, the Democratic Party is not high reputation, but also face the Republican controlled Congress, he has skillfully portrayed the Republican Party to impede progress, and then win the election. By 1994, Clinton is also a mid-term election defeat, out of the entanglement of the liberal forces within the party, so that the policy more flexible. The Democratic Party was defeated in this election, but will help the Obama campaign for re-election. If the Republicans win the House and Senate, Obama Mashun Li will raise the chances of re-election. If the Democrats hold both houses of Congress will be hovering around Obama, the relative compression of his room for this.

A Political Dynamo: Cheri DiNovo

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

Every couple of years, we have seen both good and bad politicians enter public office. Most would claim to be miracle workers who strive to enhance the quality of life of their voters. But the real tests comes on how well they keep their promises and how they effectively manage political issues when they’ve won their seat in parliament. Cheri DiNovo is a Canadian social democratic politician who has been referred to as “the new female power [in politics]” by journalists. Her climb to politics has been a series of turnabouts which makes for a very interesting story.

Cheri DiNovo is a Toronto born native and a mother of two girls. Through a series of tragedies including her mother’s death, she made it her goal to help transform the lives of others for the better. Becoming an ordained minister of the Emmanuel-Howard Park United Church was her first platform to achieving that goal. In fact, Cheri performed the first legalized same sex marriage in North America before the law changed in 2001. She also works actively to fight for the human rights of marginalized communities including women, the poor, LGTB individuals and the homeless.

After 12 years as an outspoken minister, Cheri decided to run for public office as she believed that she can do more good for the poor, and dispossessed in politics. In 2006, she represented the New Democratic Party. The election process went on an ugly turn when her opponents decided to use the controversial components of her life on the streets against her. This became known as the worst public smear campaign of the 2006 election year. The tactic however, backfired and Cheri was elected to Queen’s Park on September 14 to represent the provincial riding of Parkdale-High Park. She was also then re-elected as a member of the provincial parliament in 2007.

Adrian Fenty; How His Losing Campaign May Help Others

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines arrogance as “an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions.” This is one of the terms that were used to describe why Adrian Fenty was not re-elected as mayor of the nation’s capitol.

As we approach a major mid-term election period, questions are being raised about a number of local, state and national campaigns. In some locations, the primaries decided the next elected official because of the party numbers. In other areas, the decision will go down to the wire and, as is the case with some close calls, may be determined by court decisions.

Those in the early races have already experienced either the “joy of victory” or suffered from the “agony of defeat.” Such was the case in the mayoral election with the young incumbent in Washington, D.C.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, E. Faye Williams & Evelyn Gibson Lowery Urge Women to Get Out the Vote

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

Atlanta, GA – A diverse group of women representing all walks of life, faiths, and ethnicities assembled recently at the Atlanta Civic Center for the “Women in Power Multicultural Forum,” a spirited get-out-the-vote rally featuring a mixture of local, state, and national speakers that discussed women as “Game Changers” and urged the audience to visit, call, text, or email at least 100 women to tell them to vote early or on November 2.

“Women make are the majority voters in Georgia; that’s power,” said Evelyn Gibson Lowery, chair of sclc/Women’s Organizational Movement for Equality Now and co-convener of the forum. “It was important for us to bring together women of all cultures to talk about the influence women have at the polls and to encourage all women to actively participate in the political process.”

With Fox 5 News anchor, Lisa Rayam presiding, the upbeat event included women of all ages from children bearing get-out-the-vote signs they created to seniors distributing voter education materials. Dr. E Faye Williams, National Congress of Black Women, traveled from Washington, DC to discuss the ballot power of women nationally. The former counsel to the U.S. Congress, Williams said women are the majority voters and 2008 demonstrated the power women have at the polls.

President Obama Complaining “They Talk About Me Like a Dog”

Files under Politics | Leave a Comment

In a speech on 9/6/2010 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin it was painful to see President Obama go off the prepared remarks on the teleprompter complaining about how “They talk about me like a dog.”

I wrote an article 8/31/2010, President Obama Does “Wag the Dog” in a Deflation Economy. You can see it if you google (Obama wag the dog) or (wag the mosque). In it I called him out for coming out in favor of building the Manhattan muslim mosque. I said he was trying to divert attention away from the deflation economy slipping into depression and the possibility that the Democratic Party may lose control of both houses of Congress in the November 2010 midterm elections.

To “Wag the Dog” is a euphemism for a politician starting a war or doing something else to get the heat off his own back.

What I was said was, President Barack Hussein Obama was doing a “Wag the Mosque” just 2 months after he did “Wag Arizona” over that states new illegal immigrant law. I went on to say in so many words – President Obama you were caught in a lie and a fraud. President Obama was trying to divert attention away from the fact that the deflation economy under his left leaning administration is sick and that his Democratic Party is in trouble in the 2010 midterm elections.
