Finding Good Footwear For Practicing Urban Dance

Files under Sports | Leave a Comment

There are many different varieties and styles of dancing which are practiced today both by amateurs and professionals. It is important for dancers of different styles to choose the right footwear for themselves to ensure the most enjoyable dancing experience. Urban dance is becoming more popular today possibly due to the emergence of popular movies featuring that style of dance. Since urban dancing includes a lot of foot movement and is quite vigorous, good dancing shoes like the high quality brand Capezio dance sneakers are necessary to provide extra comfort and protection for dancers and help them concentrate on their creativity.

In urban dancing different kinds of shoes may be used but urban sneakers are the most popular kind. The high quality, good value brand Capezio dance sneakers come in a variety of styles, sizes, colours and prices. In general sneakers need to be flexible and should contain vents that may help accelerate ventilation and make shoes extremely breathable for more comfort and longer wear. To achieve this many urban sneakers feature hi tech fabric upper layers in order to provide easier air flow and better performance. Like all dance shoes, sneakers work best if they are lightweight and fit like second skin. At the same time they need to protect the feet of dancers so high quality soles are also a must.

Urban dancing is as much about movement as it is about style, so urban sneakers are sometimes thought to be the most fashionable of all dancing shoes. They usually feature flattering designs in a variety of striking colours. Some models boast contrasting patent tape patterns, intricate webs and original lacing systems. The high quality, affordable brand Capezio dance sneakers often feature contrasting design with clashes of bold colours like black and pink, black and white, as well as lively shades like sunflower and turquoise. Contrasting tape is often used for more versatility and style, and the making of the urban sneaker shoe becomes an art on its own. Dancers are welcome to show off their artistic side as well as some Capezio dance sneakers are sometimes available for customisation. Dancers with a love for unique footwear may be able to use some striking dyes in order to create a look that is instantly recognisable yet one of a kind, original and unforgettable.

Carey Price

Files under Sports | Leave a Comment

Carey Price was drafted by the Canadiens fifth overall in the 2005 “Crosby” Draft. Price tore up the WHL major junior league with the Tri-City Americans especially in his draft year when he posted 8 shutouts, a 2.34 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. Carey Price would end up spending his entire Junior Career with the Americans from 2002-2003 to 2006-2007.

In 2007, Price signed a 3 year $850 000 per year contract with the Canadiens and played his first season in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs. At the start of the 2008 campaign Carey Price found a spot on the Canadiens roster. Just before the trade deadline the Canadiens’ General Manager, Bob Gainey, traded Cristobal Huet to Washington for a second round draft pick. By doing this Gainey gave the starting job to Price. Carey Price ended up finishing up Montreal’s outstanding regular season where they finished first in the conference. Price would then falter somewhat in the playoffs with a droopy glove hand.

The 2008-2009 season Price flew under the radar with all the other commotion surrounding the Canadiens centennial anniversary. During the 2009-2010 season Carey Price battled for a job with Jaroslav Halak. Carey would eventually lose his job to Halak and watched from the sidelines as Jaro guided the Habs through two unexpected series victories. When Jaro Halak was traded to the Blues for wingers Lars Eller and Ian Schultz, Carey Price was once again designated the Canadiens’ number one goaltending job.

Golf Shoe Q&A: Spikes, Velcro, Flat Feet and More

Files under Sports | Leave a Comment

I always heard the old metal spikes were good because they kept the greens aerated. When plastic spikes came along, they were said to be better for greens. What’s the story?

Whatever benefits accrued from holes punched by metal spikes were more than offset by the damage done by foot-dragging golfers. In the metal-spike days, it was common to see tracks of six inches or longer scratched into the putting surface – invariably near the hole. Remember, the rules of golf forbid tapping down spike marks in one’s putting line, so they’re a real nuisance. (Especially when you’ve got a 3-footer to win a Nassau.)

Since plastic spikes don’t protrude as far as metal spikes, and aren’t as sharply pointed, you see far fewer scuffs and scrapes etched into greens these days. That means fewer missed putts and fewer headaches for greenskeepers.

How many spikes should my shoes have?

Dancing in Bloch Jazz Shoes is Still Popular

Files under Sports | Leave a Comment

Dancing is a great activity that may help people stay in shape. There are many different types of dance and it is difficult to describe all their peculiarities even in a bulky manual. One of the most original types of dance that came from the United States is jazz dance. Even though it has been around for quite a time, with dancers enjoying themselves in high quality Bloch jazz shoes since the 1950s, this type of dance is still popular among many people who love dancing. All respected contemporary dance schools usually include jazz dance on their curriculum.

Jazz dance is a beautiful form of dancing. Sometimes the name represents a wide variety of styles that jazz dancing includes. It is thought to have originated from African American vernacular dances and this kind of jazz dance is called traditional. Another distinct form of jazz dance emerged from Caribbean traditional dances. Traditional jazz dance styles include such popular types as the Cakewalk and Black Bottom, Charleston and Jitterbug, Boogie Woogie and swing as well as the closely related Lindy Hop. These types of dances are still popular today in the professional milieu and among amateurs who love to put on Bloch jazz shoes on stage or as part of the training in dance schools.

The importance of shoes is salient in jazz dance as many routines involve smooth movements along the dance floor while dancers execute their complicated turns and pirouettes. Before dancing it is vital to perform stretch and warm-up exercises as jazz may get very vigorous so injuries need to be avoided. Some tutors believe that jazz training should include lessons in ballet as both types of dancing involve a lot of movement and require strength from the dancers. In this respect the importance of good dance shoes is even more understandable.

Jacob Bloch made his first pair of pointe shoes in 1932. But Jacob was not only a talented craftsman but also an ardent lover of ballet and he went to different theatres to enjoy beautiful performances of his favourite dancers. African American Contenders Sparse in Heavyweight Boxing Division

Files under Sports | Leave a Comment

The heavyweight boxing division was dominated by fighters of African descent for nearly 70 years. From Joe Louis in the late 1930s to Lenox Lewis in the early part of this century, there was an almost uninterrupted string of Black heavyweight titlists, most of them Americans.

The list of Black champions is an honor roll of American sports heroes. Louis, Ezzard Charles, “Jersey” Joe Walcott, Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson and Lewis were some of the biggest celebrities of their day. Only the run of Rocky Marciano in the early to mid 1950s and one-punch wonder Ingemar Johansson interrupted that string.

Today is a different story. WBA Champion David Haye is British, and WBC Champion Vitali Klitschko is Ukrainian. The last African American Heavyweight Champion was Shannon Briggs, who ruled the WBO for part of 2006 and 2007. One almost has to go back to Evander Holyfield to find an American Black heavyweight champion with the stature of a Foreman, Frazier or Holmes.

Thrashers New Marketing Tool, Black NHL Players in Atlanta

Files under Sports | Leave a Comment

The Atlanta metropolitan area sports a population that is more than 50 percent Black, and its hockey franchise has only led the National Hockey League (NHL) in empty seats since its inception in 1999.

This year they are trying something new in the predominately White NHL, a roster that at times this season has sported five Black NHL players. The Thrashers have used that fact and those players’ likenesses in ad campaigns designed to sell tickets.

The Thrashers, of course, deny that considerations other than hockey talent impacted the makeup of their roster. “It all just kind of happened,” Thrashers President Don Waddell told the New York Times. “It wasn’t like we went out and tried to pick up Black players.”

Black NHL players currently with Atlanta include Johnny Oduya, Dustin Byfuglien, Evander Kane and Anthony Stewart. Nigel Dawes opened the season with the Thrashers but was shipped to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey Association (AHA) after five games.

Educating the youth in football
