Why go on a walking in Greece holiday? Quite simply, it’s a chance to escape to a world that many of us thought only existed in our dreams – until we visited Greece!
Greece and the Greeks
Even people that proclaim they know nothing of even their own history probably have heard some of the echoes of Greek history ringing down through the ages. The 300 Spartans, Mount Olympus and the Gods, The Trojan War, great architecture, art, literature and science – all these often come to mind when the word ‘Greece’ is mentioned.
More recently, Greece has also become associated with marvellous holiday opportunities through its beaches, crystal clear waters, marvellous historical sites, great food and fabulous people. There are so many destinations on both the mainland and islands of Greece that it’s hard to know where to start first in terms of choosing a destination. Yet one thing should be clear from the outset; while you’re in Greece you’ll want to get the most out of your experience.

Crete, the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands, offers beautiful weather, stunning scenery, the world-famous hospitality of its local people and, quite simply, some of the most superb places to go walking in Greece.
Samaria Gorge
At around 18 kilometres in length, the Samaria Gorge is the longest in Europe and is one of the biggest tourist attractions on the island, playing host to thousands of visitors between May and October each year. Situated in the prefecture of Chania in south west Crete, the gorge runs from the Omalos Plateau in the White Mountains to the village of Agia Roumeli on the southern coast. Taking between four and seven hours to walk, the route covers some quite rough terrain but is still suitable for the inexperienced, although walkers are recommended to wear sensible walking boots. Those taking part in the guided walk during the summer months, especially during July and August, are also advised to take plenty of sun screen and drinking water along with them, although there are places en route where you can buy bottled water. With steep cliffs and forests of pine and cypress, the landscape is breathtakingly beautiful and the gorge is also home to around 450 different species of plants (all of which are protected and may not be picked or removed from the gorge). If you are lucky, you might also catch sight of one of Crete’s famous inhabitants, the increasingly rare Agrimia, or Kri-Kri goats as they are commonly known. With other endemic species in and around the gorge, this is a wonderful place to visit and it certainly represents one of the highlights for anyone walking in Greece.
Deliana Gorge
The walk along the Deliana Gorge is an unchallenging one, but one which is rewarding for those walking in Greece due to its beautiful scenery. During the cooler times of the year, a stream runs alongside the path and down the rocks, accompanying your walk with a soft tinkling sound. You are likely to see many goats during your walk, but most visitors come here to see the Griffon vultures which can be spotted throughout the year. The walk through the gorge and back again is not a long one and is only likely to take around two hours in total depending on your fitness or walking ability.

The History of St Paul
Saul of Tarsus, or St Paul as he is more commonly known, is regarded as being the preacher to have made the greatest impact on Christianity, spreading Jesus’ message as he did throughout the Roman Empire. Born a Jew, his conversion to Christianity took place in a life-changing experience on the road to Damascus. He travelled far and wide, including across Greece and Turkey, spreading the Christian word to Gentiles and helping to make Christianity a universal religion. Those taking part in Turkey walks that follow St Paul’s Trail will find this a superb opportunity to learn much more about the remarkable life and teachings of the man himself.

Orlando vacation villas are idea for a family vacation. If you are thinking of taking the kids and other family members to Disney World, Florida, choosing a villa is the most cost effective solution, but it is not only that which will make you glad you chose a villa.
The amount of space you get for your money is second to none with a holiday villa: you can have upwards of three all the way to eight bedrooms if you have a large family or a group of friends with you. You will also generally have a garden area for the children to play in so you know what they are doing and that they are safe. In fact think of it as your second home, sometimes even better equipped than your own home which is always a plus when you are on vacation. There is little to compare to standing on the beach looking out over the ocean at sunrise or sunset. If you’ve never been to the Texas Gulf Coast region, especially Galveston Island, you’ll be surprised at all there is to see and do including the beaches and ocean. And one of the best and least expensive Texas Gulf Coast vacations on Galveston Island is to rent a beach house.
Galveston Island is located about 50 miles south of Houston, Texas. You can fly into Hobby Airport and it’s only a 38 mile drive to Galveston Island. You can use one of the four Limo Services for about $35 (one way) or take a Taxi for around $70, or rent a car for as little as $27 per day at Enterprise. If you’re staying at a beach house, a car would be your best bet since most of the beach house rentals are on the west side of the island.
There are many reasons to stay at a beach house besides being on or near the ocean. Considering what hotels cost for a family, a beach house offers considerable savings both in lodging cost and not having to spend money on eating out for every meal. It’s like camping only a whole lot better with a beach house. And many beach houses allow pets so you don’t have to leave any family members at home.

Italy is the largest peninsula in the Mediterranean, with the Tyrrhenian Sea to the West and the Adriatic to the East. It has the absolute perfect summer climate, with full sunshine during the summer. The weather is only cooling down during the winter time, and then it gets more often windy, cloudy and also a bit unfriendly. And because Italy is living mainly from its summer tourism, many Hotels, Restaurants and Shopping Malls are getting pretty much minimized in their operation, as soon the summer time is over. Many citizen of Italy are then enjoying mainly living from the money they made during the summer season. This is why the Italians earned the reputation of taking living the easy way with lots of “amore” during the summer, and no real work as soon as everything starts closing down.
What is happening during the summer?
The climate is providing a perfect weather for sunbathing, swimming and playing on the Beach. It is somehow similar to Florida. The sun can get very intense from 11.00am – 5.00pm. A big bottle of suntan oil is becoming here most valuable. And as soon the big school holidays are starting up in Europe – mentioning here Germany as number one – lots of families come to this country enjoying the full sun, sand and water. The Italians are pretty easy people, and because of always trying to find new ways to not having to work that much, they fit perfectly to the atmosphere of all the vacationers around them. Everywhere on the Beach you see “amore-guys”, and you may smell suntan oil and realize a lot of sun glasses blinking under the colorful umbrellas.
